2nd Disaster Workshop: Post-Disaster Reconstruction and Water Resources Held at İYTE
Prof. Dr. Luke Juran from Virginia Tech University, USA, visited our department and delivered a seminar to our students on water resource monitoring. As part of his visit, the “2nd Disaster Workshop: Post-Disaster Reconstruction and Water Resources” was held with the support of our department.
The workshop addressed climate change, natural disasters, water scarcity, and water resource management in post-disaster recovery. Our Department Chair, Prof. Dr. Alper Baba, delivered a presentation entitled “Climate Change and Water Resources: Current and Future Challenges.” Prof. Dr. Luke Juran presented “Intersections of Water and Hazards and Considering Water Resources in Post-Disaster Reconstruction,” while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uğur Demir delivered “Post-Disaster Assessment of Earthquake- and Fire-Affected Structures in Türkiye.” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Cem Karaoğlu also led an interactive session exploring water scarcity, vulnerabilities in post-disaster water resources, and potential solutions.
As the impacts of climate change and natural disasters intensify, monitoring, protecting, and sustainably managing water resources are essential to building resilient cities and raising public awareness. The event provided a valuable platform for interdisciplinary knowledge exchange and for developing solution-oriented approaches to water resource management and disaster recovery.
