Our Department Attended the 78th Turkish Geological Congress
Our department actively participated in the 78th Turkish Geological Congress, which was attended by 5,000 people, through presentations by our master’s and doctoral students. Our team, which delivered presentations on a wide range of current topics—from the sustainable use of geothermal resources to environmental modeling across Izmir—successfully represented our vision regarding climate adaptation and energy management.

Academic Management and Coordination:
- Prof. Dr. Alper BABA: Member of the Conference Organizing Committee
- Prof. Dr. Orhan GÜNDÜZ: Session Chair for “Hydrological and
- Hydrogeological Models” & “Karst Hydrogeology”
Dr. Taygun UZELLİ: Session Chair for “Geothermal Resources and Mineral Waters”
Our Researchers and Their Presentations: In addition to this strong academic representation, our students took the stage with innovative solutions to current earth science problems:
- Our Ph.D. Student Elnaz Bayat Khajeh: “Investigation of Temporal and Spatial Changes in Soil Moisture Using SMAP Data Across İzmir Province”
- Our PhD Student Neda Beirami: “GIS-Based Seasonal Mapping of Chlorophyll Dynamics in Gülbahçe Bay Using Remote Sensing Techniques”
- Our PhD Student Tolga Ayzit: “Development and Validation of a Regression Model Using Machine Learning to Predict Thermal Conductivity and Heat Flow: Dikili-Bergama Geothermal Field, Western Anatolia”
- Our PhD Student Özge Belli: “Assessment of Soil Erosion Hotspots Under Land Use Dynamics Using RUSLE and NDVI: The Case of the Urla Peninsula, Turkey”
- Our Master’s Student Öyküm Berfin Gülergül: “The Potential for Using Geothermal Resources in Greenhouse Heating in Agriculture-Based Specialized Industrial Zones” and “Seismic Monitoring and Smart Gas Shut-off System”
We congratulate all our students and advisors for their hard work and successful presentations.👏💧🌱
